The following steps are a brief guide that display product options for reproducing an original item. Alternatively, you may find that your project is at a different stage among the steps listed. For example, you may already have a mould and require the appropriate casting material. If the material you wish to use is not listed, please contact our Technical Team for advice on product compatibility and guidance.
If you do not already have this, you may need to buy one or make it yourself.
- Clays (Oil based, Polymer and Air Drying
- Armature Wire for creating framework
- EPS Foam sheets & Foam coatings
- Apoxie Sculpt
Other options may include 3D printing, scratch-built models or found objects. Some materials may negatively affect and/or inhibit the moulding system chosen in the next step, so please select carefully.
Make A Mould
Your moulding composite may be flexible or rigid, require an impression,
be brushed, poured or dipped. You may construct a one-part, two-part or multiple part mould. The moulding material that you select is typically based on 2 key factors – the casting system you intend to use to ensure compatibility, and the shape of the original part for an easy de-mould. The moulding products we offer are:
- Silicones (RTV-2 Addition & Condensation Curing)
- Elastomer Polyurethanes Rigid Polyurethanes
- Plaster & Gypsum
Other options may include 3D printing, metal such as Aluminium or Fibreglass moulds.
Cast Into Your Mould
The following is a list of possible considerations when selecting your casting material – Colour, Cost, Aesthetic, Hardness, Durability, Elasticity, Texture, Weight, Compatibility, Heat Resistance, Casting limitations. The casting products we offer are:
- Epoxy (Coating and Casting)
- Polyurethane Resin (Rigid)
- Polyurethane Foam
- Polyurethane Elastomers
- Plaster & Gypsum
- Low Melt Alloys
- Silicone (RTV-2 Addition & Condensation Curing)
- Foam Latex
Other options may include cement systems, concrete, metals, or other resins such as Polyester.
Finishing Your Object
This step does not always apply, depending on the look you are trying to achieve and the application the part is designed for. We offer the following finishing products:
- Polishing Pads
- Wet & Dry Sandpaper
- Steel & Bronze Wool
- Micro Gloss
- Metal Paints
- Epoxy coating resin
- Sealants (Wax, Spray and 2-part Polyurethane)
Other options may include wipe on Polyurethane, oils and waxes, assorted paints & primers, Varnish, lacquer, or Acrylic Sprays.
