Common Questions

What is the difference between casting and coating resin?
Casting resin (Epoxycast) is poured into moulds to make solid objects. Coating resin (Epoxyglass) is applied to surfaces as a clear, glossy topcoat. Different viscosities and cure profiles for different jobs.

Which epoxy is best for river tables?
Megapour. It’s specifically designed for deep pours β€” ultra-low exotherm prevents cracking and cloudiness in thick slabs. Epoxycast and Ultrapour are not suitable for deep river table pours.

Which epoxy is best for jewellery and resin art?
Epoxycast for casting (moulds and encapsulations). Epoxyglass for coating (canvas, trays, surface effects). Both give crystal-clear results.

Can I add pigments and inks to Barnes epoxy?
Yes β€” all Barnes epoxy resins are compatible with Barnes Glitz pigment powders, mica powders, and alcohol inks. Add to the resin component before mixing with hardener.

Will these resins yellow over time?
All Barnes epoxies have UV-resistant formulas. Yellowing is minimal in normal use. For pieces in prolonged direct sunlight, a UV topcoat or stabiliser is recommended.

Are Barnes epoxy resins safe to use at home?
Yes with appropriate precautions β€” gloves, ventilation, and eye protection. All products have full SDS sheets available on the product pages.

Does Barnes ship epoxy resin to all of New Zealand?
Yes β€” fast dispatch nationwide. Dangerous goods restrictions may apply to some products and couriers; check at checkout for your region.

Are Barnes resins the same as those sold in Australia?
Yes β€” same Barnes formulations, same quality standards. Prices are in NZD and dispatch is from within New Zealand.
